With heavy hearts and tearful eyes, we gather to bid farewell to a beloved soul who left this world far too soon. Duane Hills, a vibrant and outgoing individual, departed from us at the tender age of 50, leaving behind a void that cannot be filled. On a Saturday at the Hamilton General Hospital, Duane took his last breath, surrounded by his loving family, who had been a constant source of support and companionship throughout his remarkable journey.
Duane’s departure leaves a profound void in the lives of those who knew and loved him. He is survived by his devoted mother, Helen; sister Jackie and her husband Ron Honsberger; niece Megan and her husband PJ; and nephew Bradley. While his beloved nephew Michael passed away in 2016, Duane’s legacy endures through his adored great-nephews Mason and Abel, and great-niece Kallie. His loyal furry companion, Cody, who was not just a pet but his “best pal,” also mourns his absence. In addition to his immediate family, Duane will be deeply missed by several aunts, uncles, cousins, and numerous cherished friends.
Duane’s journey was marked by a significant loss just three years ago when his father, Ed, passed away. From this profound loss emerged a wellspring of strength and resilience that defined his character. We find solace in the belief that Duane is now reunited with his father, Ed, and nephew, Michael, in a realm where eternal peace prevails.
Duane’s life was characterized by his vibrant and outgoing personality. Wherever he went, he effortlessly forged friendships, drawing people toward him like a magnet. His ability to connect with others was a testament to his warm heart and welcoming spirit. He leaves behind a vast network of friends, all of whom will forever cherish the cherished memories they shared with him.
One of Duane’s greatest passions in life was sports, particularly baseball and hockey. His enthusiasm for these sports was infectious, and he never missed an opportunity to share his passion with others. Whether it was cheering for his favorite teams or participating in friendly games with friends and family, Duane’s love for sports was an integral part of his life.
However, it wasn’t just his love for sports that endeared Duane to those around him. His sense of humor was legendary. Duane had a unique gift for making people laugh and brightening even the darkest of days with his infectious laughter. His humor had a magical quality, bringing together friends and family and creating bonds that would last a lifetime.
When we think of Duane, we remember a man who lived life to the fullest. He embraced every moment, cherishing the beauty of each day. While he may have departed from this world prematurely, his spirit will continue to shine brightly in our hearts, serving as a reminder of the joy and laughter he brought into our lives.
As we say our final goodbyes, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful bedside nurses, Lam and Matt, who provided Duane with exceptional care and compassion during his challenging battle. Their kindness during this difficult time meant the world to Duane and his family.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that you consider making a donation to a charity of your choice in Duane’s memory. It is a fitting tribute to a man who always extended a helping hand to those in need.
We will gather to celebrate Duane’s remarkable life and the enduring impact he had on all of us on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Pleasantview Funeral Home, located at 2000 Merrittville Hwy, THOROLD. For any inquiries, you may contact the funeral home at 905-892-1699. Duane will be laid to rest beside his father, Ed, at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens, a place where their spirits can rest together for eternity.
Duane Hills may no longer be with us in the physical realm, but his memory will live on in our hearts. His laughter, his warmth, and his unwavering friendship will continue to inspire us to live our lives to the fullest, just as he did. As we bid farewell to our dear friend and family member, we take comfort in knowing that Duane’s legacy will endure, reminding us always to cherish the moments we have and to share a smile, a laugh, and a kind word with those we hold dear. In the words Duane often used to express his love, “Love ya…”
