We announce the untimely departure of Lee Hawco, a valued member of our community, who left this world on Friday, September 22, 2023, at the age of 58, with heavy hearts and deep sorrow. His untimely passing has left an unfillable hole in the hearts of those who knew him, but those who had the honour of sharing their lives with him will always treasure his memory.
The variety of his relationships and the warmth of his personality defined Lee’s life. He was pre-deceased by several loved ones, including his grandparents Willie and Catherine Everson, Vincent and Bridget Hawco, his father-in-law Wylie Burge, Aunt Pidge Everson, Uncle Peter Everson, Brother-in-law Bruno Ball, niece Melissa Hawco, and cousins Rodney Hawco and Darren Everson. Their spirits now join him in the eternal realm, creating a reunion that brings solace to our hearts.
The people he held dear will continue to carry on Lee’s legacy of love and treasured memories. He is survived by his loving wife Wanda, son Matt, daughters Jenn and Brooke, and his parents. His beloved grandson Ethan, who was the pride of his life, will always hold a special place in Lee’s heart as a symbol of his devotion.
In addition to his immediate family, Lee is also grieved by his mother-in-law, Florence Burge, and his parents, Leo and Bun Hawco. The sorrow at his passing is shared by his siblings, Tony Hawco and his wife Glenda, Billy Hawco and his wife Lynn, and Joanne Masters and her husband Glen. He is also remembered by his sisters-in-law Edna Burge and Joanne Ball, along with their respective husbands, and his brother-in-law Shawn Burge with his wife Carol. The strength of family bonds was evident in Lee’s life, and this unity continues to provide comfort during these trying times.
Special companions David and Kev Parsons were close confidants and friends through the highs and lows of life. They served as a reminder of how enduring real friendship is by being in Lee’s life.
Many other people’s lives have also been impacted by Lee’s departure. Numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and other family members who were fortunate to have him in their life continue to cherish his memory. His broad-reaching effects are felt by a sizable group of family members and friends, including his sports family and the tight-knit fishing community that he was a vital part of.
In times of sorrow, it is essential to remember the moments of joy and laughter that Lee brought into our lives. He was not only a loving family man but also a dedicated friend who could always be counted on for a good time. Whether it was on the sports field or out on the water, Lee’s zest for life was infectious. His passion for fishing was matched only by his dedication to his sports family. He leaves behind a legacy of camaraderie, teamwork, and sportsmanship that will be remembered for generations to come.
As we gather to remember Lee and celebrate his life, we invite friends, family, and the community to pay their respects at Caul’s Funeral Home in Torbay on Monday, September 25th, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Lee’s Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 26th, at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Parish. Following the Mass, a reception will be held at the Flatrock community center, where friends and loved ones can come together to share their memories, offer support, and find solace in each other’s presence.
In times of grief, we often reflect on the impact a person has had on our lives. Lee Hawco was a man of unwavering love, loyalty, and laughter. His legacy is not defined by the tears we shed today, but by the smiles, he brought us throughout his life.
